Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the plans of the Estonian authorities to restrict shipping in the Gulf of Finland. According to him, Russia expects that navigation there will continue to be provided by international maritime law.

“There is still international maritime law, and we must proceed from this. Freedom of navigation is precisely ensured by this right. We proceed from the fact that this will continue,” Peskov told reporters.

Earlier it was reported that Tallinn is considering the issue of introducing a contiguous zone to its territorial sea within 24 nautical miles. This will allow, among other things, inspecting Russian ships or even prohibiting their passage.
