Peskov: Kremlin monitors information on Ukraine’s security guarantees

The Kremlin is closely monitoring information about the provision of security guarantees by the United States, France and other countries to Ukraine. This was announced by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov noted that it is not yet clear from official statements exactly what format of guarantees they are talking about.

“We know that a number of agreements have been signed just to the effect that certain security guarantees will be provided to Ukraine on a bilateral basis, this is a whole club of countries. In this context, we have never heard any mention, or at least reference to the concerns that our country has repeatedly expressed about our security, which is regrettable,” Peskov said.

The presidential press secretary also explained that so far this process is “rather one-sided and the essence of the process is not exactly clear,” noting that such processes cannot be viable without mentioning Russia’s security.

The United States plans to hold a second round of negotiations with Ukraine to determine security guarantees before the end of the year. The G7 leaders agreed to prepare them on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius in July. Eighteen states have agreed to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
