Peskov commented on the situation with the admission of Russian athletes to the Olympic Games

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that athletes can make their own decisions about participation or non-participation in the Olympic Games. He noted that the President of the Russian Federation had already expressed this position before.

“Our athletes and the relevant federations make the decision themselves,” Peskov said.

He added that those athletes “who are ready to participate should.”

In addition, Peskov emphasized that although a considerable number of Russian athletes compete abroad, “for us they are still Russian athletes.”

Earlier, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, called Russian tennis players planning to go to the Games in Paris a “team of foreign agents.” According to the official, tennis players “live abroad most of the time and earn money there”, and also “condemn the policies of their country and the Central Military District.” He also noted that he agrees with rhythmic gymnastics coach Irina Viner, who previously stated that Russian athletes at the Olympics will be “a team of homeless people without a flag, an anthem, or fans.”
