Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov explained the statement of the Ministry of Defense on equating tankers with grain to ships carrying weapons by terminating the grain deal. According to him, this was not a response to the second attack on the Crimean bridge.
“This statement is connected with the termination of the deal,” Dmitry Peskov said in response to the question whether this statement can be considered Russia’s response to the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge.
The day before, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense reportedthat from July 20 all ships, including tankers, sailing in the Black Sea to Ukrainian ports, will be considered carriers of military cargo. Russia will consider countries under the flags of these ships involved in the conflict. Several sea areas in the northwestern and southeastern parts of the international waters of the Black Sea have been declared temporarily dangerous for navigation.
On the night of July 17, the Crimean bridge was attacked by two surface drones. A criminal case has been opened on the attack. President Vladimir Putin promised “Russia’s response” to the attack on the Crimean bridge. July 18 Ministry of Defense reported about strikes against objects in Odessa as part of Operation Retribution.
