Statements made by the Ukrainian side about alleged plans to move the capital of Russia inland do not correspond to reality, declared Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov to the RIA Novosti agency.
Earlier, Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said that in the Russian Federation they are now allegedly “talking about moving the capital deep into Russia, and many other processes are already underway.”
“That’s not true,” a Kremlin spokesman told the news agency.
On March 3, in an interview with the Russia 24 TV channel at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum (KEF), a businessman and founder of US Rusal Oleg Deripaska once again offered move the Russian capital to Siberia. He stressed that the main flow of investments in the future will come from Asia, and in the Siberian region it will be possible to resolve issues related to economic development with the East “on the spot”.
In March 2022, at KEF-22, Deripaska also made a proposal to move the capital to the central part of the country. Then he said that Russia’s interests in the future “are in Asia.” “I always say: it seems like a utopia, but why do we need a capital in Moscow, if we have all our interests in Asia. And a different time for the approach of missiles, and everything else will look different if it is located in Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk,” Deripaska said.
