Moscow takes into account the nuances in Armenia’s position on the conflict in Ukraine, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov. This is how he commented on the statement of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that Armenia is not an ally of Russia in this conflict.
“We take note of it. We know that there are certain nuances in Armenia’s approach to the conflict over Ukraine. We take them into account, we know them,” he said.
At the same time, Russia continues to develop conceptually allied relations with Armenia, Peskov stressed.
The fact that Yerevan is not an ally of Moscow in the conflict in Ukraine, Pashinyan previously stated in an interview with CNN Prima News.
“You said that we are an ally of Russia. Of course, this has never been loudly stated, but I think it is noticeable. In the war with Ukraine, we are not an ally of Russia,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
On May 25, 20-minute trilateral talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev and Pashinyan took place in the Kremlin. Prior to this, the Russian president held talks with each of the two foreign leaders separately.
As part of the event, Aliyev said that relations between Baku and Yerevan could normalize, the prerequisites for this appeared after the recognition of each other’s territorial integrity by Azerbaijan and Armenia. Pashinyan confirmed Yerevan’s readiness to “unblock all transport and economic ties in the region”, as well as to open regional communications.
Peskov after negotiations considered a possible signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is possible in the foreseeable future. The heads of state have a “common point of view” on how to resolve the situation, he added.
