Peskov called Safronov’s sentence “very harsh”

The Kremlin considers the sentence handed down to the ex-adviser to the head of Roskosmos, Ivan Safronov, very severe. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
“Yes, we can state that this is a very harsh sentence. I have nothing more to say on this topic, ”said the presidential spokesman.
Earlier, he said that he could not say whether the leader of the state, Vladimir Putin, knew about the court’s decision. He admitted that the president was aware of the verdict from the press. But the Kremlin has no right to comment on this decision.
On the eve it became known that journalist Ivan Safronov received 22 years in prison in the case of treason. The journalist was also fined 500 thousand rubles. Safronov pleaded not guilty and refused to deal with the investigation. According to the FSB, in 2015-2019 he collected secret information about Russia’s military-technical cooperation with the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans.
