Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov considers censorship necessary in “wartime.” He said this in an interview with the student project “MGIMO 360” (published on YouTube).

“In wartime there must be a certain censorship and there must be certain rules that would be unacceptable in normal peacetime, but now they must be a mandatory attribute,” said the presidential press secretary.

He added that now “the time is tough, wartime, which requires tough measures from the authorities.”

At the “Territory of Meanings” forum in August 2023, Dmitry Peskov said that Western media live in a state of “absolute military censorship.” From the special services, he said, journalists receive information leaks, which are often fakes. Then he added that Russia needs to compete with Western publications in this direction.

On November 13, Russia presented a report on the state of human rights in the country. Representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office Natalya Emelkina recalled that in Russia “censorship is prohibited”, and the Constitution guarantees freedom of thought and speech.

More details in the text “Kommersant” “Sanctions did not affect human rights”.
