Peskov answered the question about the possible withdrawal of Russia from the grain deal

Russia cannot endlessly show goodwill in the situation around the grain deal, since the West does not fulfill part of the agreements. Russia may withdraw from the grain deal at the end of it, said the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

The day before, on June 13, during a meeting with military corps, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared about the Kremlin’s consideration of the option to withdraw from the grain deal. Journalists today clarified with Peskov that we are talking about early exit or at the end of the deadline. “At the end,” the spokesman replied.

Peskov noted that Russia has repeatedly made “gestures of good will”, showing a responsible approach. “But, unfortunately, in the absence of reciprocity and in the absence of the desire of the collective West to fulfill part of the agreements regarding Russia, of course, the manifestation of goodwill and political will cannot be endless. That’s why it’s being considered. There is no progress yet,” he said, answering the question why they are now talking about a possible exit from the deal.

The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN, on the one hand, and representatives of Russia and Ukraine, on the other. Separate agreements were concluded with Moscow and Kiev: the first was for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chernomorsk, and the second was for assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. Moscow has repeatedly noted that the second part of the deal is not being implemented. In May, the deal was extended until July 17.

10 June Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Vershinin declaredthat the decision on the grain deal will be made only on the basis of the interests of the Russian side. He made such a statement following negotiations with the UN. Vershinin also said that the UN was unable to convince the European Union to reconnect Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT payment system.
