Peskov announced the impossibility of “changing the course of events” by supplying weapons to Kyiv

Western deliveries of new weapons to Ukraine lead to a significant escalation of the conflict, but this is not potentially and will not change the course of events, said Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“Ukraine demands more and more new weapons. The West encourages these demands and pledges its readiness to provide these weapons. The situation is a dead end, because I repeat once again: this leads to a significant escalation, this leads to the fact that more and more NATO countries are directly involved in the conflict. But it is not capable of and will not change the course of events potentially. The special military operation will continue,” Peskov answered the question of how the Kremlin reacts to the words of Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Andriy Melnyk that Germany could transfer a submarine to Kyiv.

The day before, January 29, Melnik offered Germany to transfer the submarine HDW class 212A to Ukraine. “The Bundeswehr has six such submarines. Why not send one to Ukraine?” – he wrote on Twitter, noting that such a submarine would be useful to Kyiv in the Black Sea.

January 25 Bloomberg, citing a statement by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reportedthat Germany announced the shipment of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. German-made tanks will come from the warehouses of the Bundeswehr. According to the statement, Germany will also provide the allies with the necessary permission to re-export their Leopard 2s to Ukraine. On the same day, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius declaredthat German tanks will be delivered to Ukraine no earlier than in 3-4 months. But a day later he promised Delivery of Leopard 2 to Ukraine “by the end of March”.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has repeatedly pointed out that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.

Peskov has repeatedly said that the supply of weapons to Ukraine will not prevent Russia from achieving the goals of the special operation. Last summer, the presidential press secretary declaredthat the supply of weapons to Kyiv will not change the parameters of the NWO, its goals will be achieved in any case. He called undesirable and unpleasant scenarios in which foreign weapons would be used for strikes on Russian territory. “This will significantly change the situation in an unfavorable direction,” Peskov emphasized.
