As informs Wall Street Journal, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during his trip to Seoul, was unable to convince the leadership of South Korea to change its position regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
The publication clarifies that the Secretary General of the Alliance, during negotiations with South Korean President Yun Suk Yeol, said that Ukraine urgently needs ammunition. Meanwhile, official Seoul has so far limited itself to helping Kyiv in the form of gas masks, body armor and medicines. As for the supply of weapons, the South Korean authorities are in no hurry to do so in this matter.
“I urge the Republic of Korea to step up the issue of military support … Several NATO allies who had a policy of never exporting weapons to countries in conflict have now changed this policy,” Stoltenberg said.
However, South Korean President Yun Suk-yeol was relentless, recalling that under the current legislation, Seoul cannot provide military assistance to the parties to the armed conflict.
