During the visit of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to the Vostochny cosmodrome, the question was raised about the possibility of sending a North Korean astronaut into space, said Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.
“We talked about the fact that, if the North Korean side wishes, it is possible to train and launch a North Korean cosmonaut into space,” Peskov said.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un arrived in Russia on September 12 at the invitation of the Russian president. On September 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un held talks in an expanded format at the Vostochny cosmodrome. The leaders of the Russian Federation and the DPRK got acquainted with the progress of the assembly of the new Angara launch vehicle, as well as with the characteristics of the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle. Putin said Kim Jong Un is showing great interest in rocket technology as North Korea seeks to develop space exploration.
The President of Russia also informedthat Kim Jong-un will visit Vladivostok and aircraft manufacturing plants in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. According to the president, a “military unit under the Ministry of Defense” is planned in Vladivostok. We are talking about demonstrating the capabilities of the Pacific Fleet. During the visit, the DPRK leader will visit the North-Eastern Federal University and inspect several facilities of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
