UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said that he plans to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov next week on the sidelines of the high-level week and discuss with him issues related to the grain agreement.
Guterres intends to hold negotiations on the same topic with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Turkish President Recep Erdogan.
The high-level week of the UN General Assembly will take place from 19 to 26 September. Sergei Lavrov heads the Russian delegation.
In July 2022, representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN signed a package of documents implying the lifting of restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets. The documents also document the algorithm for the safe exit of commercial ships from the Black Sea ports under Ukrainian control through specially formed maritime humanitarian corridors. Subsequently, Russia refused to participate in the agreement, indicating that its obligations to the Russian Federation were not being fulfilled.
