People’s militia created in Zaporozhye region – Kommersant

Acting Governor of the Zaporozhye region Yevgeny Balitsky said that the first militia took the oath. The people’s militia, created in the region, together with the police and the military commandant’s office, will patrol and guard the settlements.
“Residents of the Zaporozhye region daily demonstrate unity in protecting the interests of our region, maintaining security and building a peaceful life,” the head of the region wrote in his Telegram channel.
Evgeny Balitsky signed decree on the formation of the people’s militia in March. Then he noted that adult citizens of Russia, as well as stateless persons, would be able to join the militia. They will serve in the people’s militia without leaving their main place of work.
Residents of the Zaporozhye region, which became part of Russia, are exempt from conscription and mobilization during the transition period. However, in September 2022, by decree of the head of the region, a volunteer battalion named after Sudoplatov was created. Its purpose was to protect strategic facilities in the Zaporozhye region.
It should be noted that yesterday, June 8, the head of the Zaporozhye public movement “We are together with Russia” Vladimir Rogov declared on the intensification of fighting in the area between Orekhovo and Tokmak. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also informed about the attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Zaporozhye direction. The Minister stressed that the advance of the Ukrainian troops was stopped.
