Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, in his Christmas address, wished that everyone would be illuminated by the “enlightening, renewing, warming and transforming light of Christ’s Nativity.” According to him, people may not notice the divine light due to vanity, smartphones, billboards and the “bright flood of redundant information.”

“Being immersed in his worries, a person can pass by the divine light, not notice it, not recognize it in the everyday bustle. Unfortunately, our contemporaries often find themselves blinded by the cold light pouring from everywhere of billboards, smartphones and tablets. “The eyes become so accustomed to this bright stream of excess information that more and more often people pass by what the ray of this cold light did not hit,” the patriarch said in a video congratulation (published on the TV channel’s website “Saved”).

The Patriarch added that if you turn off the electricity, then all the screens “will go out in an instant, but the sun of truth will always shine, enlightening and illuminating every person.” He wished to share with each other “the unfading warm light of true faith, unshakable hope and true love”, called for doing good deeds, comforting and supporting those who need it in order to fill “life with lasting meaning, joy, happiness and peace.”
