Pentagon whistleblower on Vietnam War Daniel Ellsberg dies
Former Pentagon official Daniel Ellsberg, best known for exposing the US government’s actions to escalate in Vietnam, has died at the age of 92. The Washington Post writes about this, citing the Ellsberg family.
The military analyst died at his home in Kensington, California.
Ellsberg handed over to The New York Times a secret collection of Pentagon documents, from which it became known that the administration of President Lyndon Johnson, who led the country from 1963 to 1969, intended to escalate in Vietnam. The documents were published by the newspaper in 1971 and led to a wide public outcry, undermining to a large extent the confidence of the American and world public in the US authorities.
Ellsberg was accused of espionage, but the US Supreme Court acquitted him.
