Moscow doctors helped a 12-year-old girl get rid of a huge hump. A child with severe scoliosis was successfully operated on at the Russian Children’s Clinical Hospital.
As MK found out, some time ago a girl was admitted to a medical facility with severe scoliosis of the thoracic spine, which was rapidly progressing. The child had a significant distortion of the shoulder girdle: the left shoulder was 10 centimeters lower than the right, and there was also a pronounced rib hump. In addition, the young patient has a congenital heart pathology; at an early age she had to undergo several complex operations. And against the background of progressive scoliosis, she also developed respiratory failure. This condition significantly increases the complexity of surgical treatment and requires careful planning and preparation.
Surgeons installed special screws in the girl’s vertebral bodies, which were subsequently connected to each other with rods. Then we gradually changed the axis of the spine in three planes and thereby achieved correction. At the last stage, doctors placed a bone autograft on the metal structure.
The operation was successful, the surgeons were able to achieve the desired result. The imbalance of the shoulder girdle and rib hump were completely eliminated, and the angle of deformity did not exceed 40 degrees. In addition to the cosmetic effect, the operation improved the function of the chest organs. Now the girl has finally recovered and returned to an active lifestyle.
