A representative of the head of the government apparatus Dmitry Grigorenko said “Vedomosti”that fares using biometrics in the Moscow metro will be available from December 1. According to him, citizens will be able to use this option only if their face and voice casts are in the Unified Biometric System (UBS).

Payment using biometrics will also be possible when purchasing goods and services in online and offline stores. According to a Vedomosti source, the December deadline was set at a meeting with the participation of, among other things, the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Development, the Federal Tax Service, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Transport and the FSB.

A representative of Dmitry Grigorenko noted that within the framework of this project it is also planned to develop a service for opening a business online, a mechanism for issuing an electronic signature for businesses and government employees, as well as a mechanism for confirming the identity of a passenger when boarding a train. According to the publication, these initiatives were planned to be launched next year, but “Grigorenko instructed to speed up their implementation.”

On June 1, a law came into force according to which biometric profiles of Russians (facial image and voice recording) must be transferred to the state EBS by September 30, 2023. From November 28, the biometrics of Russians will have to be stored only in the EBS.

As Kommersant reported, at the end of August, government service centers recorded an increased demand for a refusal to collect and store biometric data. The reason for the mass refusal of citizens was fake reports that a refusal to collect biometrics can be issued only until August 31, after which citizens will allegedly be forced to take photographs through ATM cameras and record their voices over the phone. Soon, the government signed a decree allowing citizens to delete previously collected biometrics through the Gosuslugi portal.
