Secretary of the Security Council of Russia Nikolay Patrushev believes that the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station was destroyed due to the undermining of Ukraine. According to him, the day before, Ukraine dumped water at the Dnieper hydroelectric power station in order to cause “the detrimental effects of the flood.”
“Blowing up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is another planned terrorist attack by the Kyiv regime aimed at destroying civilians and civilian infrastructure,” Nikolai Patrushev said at a meeting with State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Volfovich (quoted from “Interfax”).
“At the direction of Kiev, days earlier, a large-scale discharge of water was carried out at the Dnepro HPP, located upstream, and then another blow was struck at the Kakhovskaya HPP, predetermining even more detrimental consequences of the flood,” he said.
The dam of the Kakhovskaya HPP was partially destroyed in the early morning of June 6. As a result, the settlements adjacent to the Kakhovka reservoir were flooded: the cities of Novaya Kakhovka, Alyoshki, Golaya Pristan. An emergency regime was introduced in the Kherson region. Up to 40 thousand people ended up in the flood zone.
Russia and Ukraine blame each other for what happened. The White House has not yet identified who is responsible for the destruction of the dam. According to one version, it could collapse due to previous damage.
