15 people have died in Russian coal mines since the beginning of the year due to injuries
The chairman of Rosugleprof, Ivan Mokhnachuk, said at a meeting of the working group of the Ministry of Energy that for the period from January to May 2023, the death toll in Russian coal mines and cuts was 15 people.
This figure for the whole of 2022 was 17 people.
5 people died in underground work, and 10 in open-pit mining. In addition, another 15 people died of natural causes during working hours.
Mokhnachuk noted that last year was one of the best in terms of safety. But this year, twice as many people are dying on the surface than underground. This is due to inadequate labor protection.
The coal industry has a well-organized control over the health of workers, but despite this, there are cases of natural death.
Mokhnachuk also noted that in the vast majority of cases, post-shift rehabilitation is not organized due to the greed of employers. In 2022, losses due to worker injuries amounted to 11.38 thousand man-days, and due to occupational diseases – 310 thousand man-days.
