Patriarch Kirill will not go to a religious congress in Kazakhstan in September and will not meet with Pope Francis there.
It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Metropolitan Anthony.
The metropolitan, as the agency writes, said that a new meeting of the patriarch and the pontiff has not been prepared since the suspension of the process by the Vatican in the spring.
Also, according to him, the Russian Orthodox Church has not received official proposals from the Vatican on the time and place of the meeting between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill. Anthony noted that such a meeting should become a separate event, and not take place “on the sidelines” of the forums.
Earlier it was reported that on September 13-15, the Pope will visit Kazakhstan, where the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held in Nur-Sultan, which will be attended by over 100 delegations from 51 countries. The Pope’s visit will be held under the motto “Messengers of Peace and Unity”, written on the stylized logo of the event in two languages - Russian and Kazakh.
