Patriarch Kirill called Russia a stronghold holding the world from “total domination of evil”
Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ Kirill, after the consecration of the St. Andrew’s Church of the skete of the same name of the Valaam Monastery on the island of Valaam, said that the Russian Orthodox Church is now given “a special time of opportunity”, transmits RG.RU.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said that much needs to be done for the spiritual revival of Russia, which, according to him, is the last bulwark holding the world from “the total domination of evil.”
“Today, many people, including those in the West, look with attention and hope to Russia as the last stronghold,” the patriarch said.
He also said that, in biblical terms, “Russia is becoming a ‘restraint’ from the total domination of evil, that is, the coming of the Antichrist.”
Therefore, it is necessary “to realize that it was at this time that our church was entrusted with a huge spiritual responsibility – both for its people, and for the country, and for the whole world.”
Patriarch Kirill also recalled that in the twentieth century the Russian Orthodox Church had already accomplished a “great historical feat”, preserving the faith for the people. He urged the clergy and monks of the monastery not to weaken their efforts and spiritual vigilance.
