Several streets were flooded in Nizhny Novgorod as a result of heavy rains. Because of this, today, July 10, in the morning, trolleybuses and trams on nine routes were suspended in the city, and there may be difficulties on five more routes, the regional Transport Systems Development Center reported. In the city center the situation is stable, trolleybuses operate on four routes as usual.
“Trolleybuses cannot be operated when the water level on the carriageway is higher than 12 cm on board due to the fact that there is a system for ensuring the movement of trolleybuses – a short circuit is possible,” the Center for the Development of Transport Systems said. In addition, the substation that fed the trolleybus depot No. 2 was flooded in the city, it is de-energized.
It has been raining in Nizhny Novgorod since Saturday, July 8th. Utilities pumped out about 15 thousand cubic meters of water from the streets.
The city received more than a month’s rainfall. “This is a serious amount of water. Forecasters say that the last time such a level of precipitation was recorded in 1929. Judging by the weather forecast, showers came to the city for at least a few days. All services and equipment are maximally involved in eliminating the consequences, ”wrote the mayor of the city Yuri Shalabaev in Telegram channel.
Also, due to bad weather, the power engineers of Nizhnovenergo were transferred to a special mode of operation.
