Patriarch Kirill expressed condolences over the murder of Roman Legoyda

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ offered condolences in connection with the murder of Roman Legoyda. This is the father of the chairman of the Synodal Department of the Russian Orthodox Church for relations between the Church and society and the media, Vladimir Legoida.

“With pain in my heart I received the sad news of the tragic death of your father and husband Roman Timofeevich Legoyda, who had gone through a long life. I am convinced that the zealous service of his son in the field of Holy Orthodoxy, who firmly and consistently defends the church position in the media space, is also the fruit of the parental care of the deceased,” said Patriarch Kirill in a letter, published on the ROC website.

The murder occurred yesterday, December 29. The body of 90-year-old Roman Legoyda with multiple stab wounds was found by the side of the road near SNT Meshcherino-Churilkovo. A day later was detained The suspect in the murder is a 25-year-old man, he admitted guilt. Consequence believesthat the motive for the murder could have been the theft of 100 thousand rubles. To the detainee presented charges under paragraph “h” of Part 2 of Art. 105 (murder for the purpose of robbery), part 5 of Art. 327 (use of knowingly forged documents), as well as under Art. 162 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

According to Kommersant, the person involved in the case is Adam Shcherbakov. He was previously convicted on similar charges. In 2022, the man was recruited into a PMC and took part in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, after which he escaped from the special operation zone.
