Password-stealing virus found on Android

ThreatFabric specialists have discovered the Chameleon virus, which steals personal data, on Android operating devices
Employees of ThreatFabric, which specializes in mobile security analysis, have discovered a virus in the Android operating system that disables fingerprint scans from the device. The publication reported this BleepingComputer.
The found virus was named Chameleon. As experts explained, it can appear on a smartphone through the Zombinder service – a set of applications that can masquerade as the Google Chrome browser. This virus is capable of disabling smartphone functions and then stealing the user’s personal data.
Chameleon can disable the fingerprint scanning function. As soon as the user places his finger on the scan, the smartphone displays an error. The phone owner is forced to enter a password using numbers, and at this moment the virus steals the user’s data.
The virus works on smartphones running Android 13 and earlier OS versions. ThreatFabric specialists advised users to enable the Play Protect function to avoid the Chameleon getting inside the smartphone.
