The head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, received a call from Russian pranksters Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexey Stolyarov). In a conversation with them, the head of the IOC said that by participating in the Friendship Games, countries are siding with Russia in the military conflict with Ukraine and thus supporting the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
“It would be important for African states to know that, for the reasons stated by Vice-President (European Commission Margaritis – Kommersant) Schinas, by participating in the Friendship Games these countries and these governments are taking sides in the Russian-Ukrainian war. And they take the side of Russia. In the Friendship Games they show support for Russia’s war in Ukraine and the violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine,” said Thomas Bach. One of the pranksters, Alexey Stolyarov, called Thomas Bach and Margaritis Schinas, posing as an African politician. Separately, the Vovan and Lexus channel published a part of the conversation in which the “African politician” asks officials to pray with him in honor of the holiday of “Saints Vovan and Lexus – heroes of the continent.” After the “prayer,” Lexus, however, accuses Bach and Schinas of political conspiracy. Then he pours vodka into glasses, shows the officials his friends – the skeleton of Yorick and the plush Cheburashka – and says goodbye.
After this message appeared, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said on Channel One that the head of the IOC had become the “conductor” of the anti-Russian campaign in sports. Previously, the head of the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny saidthat Olympic participants from Russia must abandon the Friendship Games in order to participate in the games in Paris.
The Friendship Games are scheduled to take place from September 15 to 29, 2024 in Yekaterinburg and Moscow. The competition includes 33 summer sports (Olympic and non-Olympic). President Vladimir Putin ordered the Games to be held. According to the organizers, representatives of about 70 countries will take part in the competition.
