The head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova, admitted that the presidential elections in the Russian Federation in 2024 could take place within a few days. She’s talking about this reported during a TASS press conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Russian electoral system.
“We didn’t come up with multi-day voting out of good luck – there was a pandemic. The system is very dynamic: depending on external factors, we quickly not only proposed, but were also able to implement it,” said the head of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.
According to Pamfilova, then voters appreciated the convenience of such a multi-day voting system, and now there is such a request from society that the CEC cannot but take into account.
Multi-day voting was first used at the federal level in the summer during the “all-Russian vote” to change the Constitution in 2020 as a “temporary measure” in connection with the coronavirus. That same fall, the experiment was repeated in the elections of governors and deputies of legislative assemblies.
