Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia Ella Pamfilova said at a briefing on the afternoon of March 16 that in 20 regions at 29 polling stations there were attempts to set fire to or damage boxes with ballots. According to her, there were 8 attempts at arson, and 214 ballots were irretrievably damaged.

“This is how we analyzed it. We prevented all kinds of liquid injections at 20 polling stations and 8 arson attempts. In one case, they tried to use a smoke bomb,” she said (quoted by TASS).

“I can’t please you with anything, in quotes, violations, (with them) we dealt with. We are wool, we are sitting, there is mostly garbage there, sucked out of thin air, there is nothing serious, so there is nothing to sort out now,” added Ella Pamfilova.

For the first time, the Russian presidential elections are held over three days: March 15, 16 and 17. The CEC registered Vladimir Putin (self-nominated), Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) as candidates. According to the Central Election Commission, at 16:13 Moscow time the turnout in the elections was 50.01%.
