Pamfilova promised to introduce electronic voting only at the request of the regions

The introduction of remote electronic voting (DEG) will take place only at the request of the regions, said the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Ella Pamfilova, writes Interfax.
“As for electronic remote voting, will it be distributed. Only exclusively in regional elections. <...> Only if there is a request from the inhabitants of this region for this type of voting. Only at the request of the region itself,” said the head of the CEC.
According to Pamfilova, despite the fact that the commission is ready to hold elections in an electronic format on a “national scale”, it was decided not to take risks and not impose such a form of voting.
Fall 2022 Chairman declared about the unacceptability of the forced introduction of DEG in all regions of Russia. She noted that voters should have the right to choose. At the same time, Pamfilova allowed the distribution of the DEG throughout the country, but the security of the system and the level of confidence of citizens are important.
On July 26 this year, the head of the CEC reported about 66,000 applications for participation in electronic voting in the autumn elections of 2023. Elections in the regions this year will be held on September 8-10. Among them, 21 regions will elect governors, another five heads of regions will be approved by parliaments, and elections to legislative assemblies will be held in 20 regions. As noted in the CEC, the results of the DEG in the elections will be made public almost immediately after the polling stations are closed.
