Overhaul with elements of restoration
[ad_1]
Repair and restoration work is nearing completion in monumental houses that majestically adorn our capital. As part of the overhaul program, by the end of the year, 15 old buildings in Moscow will be restored to their former elegance. Among them are a masterpiece of eclecticism on Volkhonka and Zholtovsky’s house on Smolenskaya Square.
The building on Volkhonka, built in the eclectic style in the century before last, was once considered exemplary. Then the house was passed from hand to hand and lost its former elegance. Now it is undergoing restoration work.
Restoration of another historic building with a turret on Smolenskaya Square is at the finish line. After the restoration, the house will become the pearl of the “golden mile”.
The area from Smolenskaya Square to Prechistinskaya Embankment has long been considered prestigious. Elite houses and mansions were built here even before the revolution. The house with a turret on Smolenskaya Square was no exception. In Soviet times, it had communal apartments. Now, thanks to restoration work, the house has been restored to its original historical appearance.
House No. 13/21 on Smolenka was called by Muscovites the “house with a turret” and is known primarily for the fact that the entrance to the Smolenskaya metro station of the Filevskaya line is located here. The building is made in the ceremonial style of Stalinist architecture.
