The number of foreign agents increased by 3.5 times over three years by the beginning of March 2024, to 579 individuals and legal entities, media and non-profit organizations, reported “RIA News” in the project “Contour.Focus”.

Project analysts studied data from the Russian Ministry of Justice on foreign agents from March 2021 to March 2024. Of the 579 foreign agents, 409 are individuals, 51 of whom are engaged in business. There are 25 foreign agents in the Media and Advertising industry. Business services are provided by 22 foreign agents. In the field of tourism and leisure, 22 entrepreneurs appear in the Ministry of Justice register, 18 foreign agents are engaged in publishing activities, RIA Novosti reports.

The project notes that during the period under study, the number of individuals-foreign agents increased from five to 409. The number of legal entities in the register of foreign agents from March 2021 to the beginning of March of this year increased from 77 to 95. The number of unregistered public associations and media-foreign agents increased from 10 to 75.

According to the results of the study, the number of legal entities without foreign participation in the register of foreign agents has increased over three years, while the number of legal entities with foreign participation, on the contrary, has decreased. It is clarified that in March 2021 there were three foreign agent legal entities with foreign participation, and at the beginning of March 2024 – one. The number of legal entities without foreign participation increased during the reporting period from 74 to 94.

“Kontur.Focus” reported that the majority of individual foreign agents with registered individual entrepreneurs live in Moscow – 77. In second place is St. Petersburg with nine such foreign agents. In third place is the Sverdlovsk region (six foreign agents-IP).

At the end of February 2024, the State Duma accepted a law on a complete ban on advertising on all information resources of foreign agents, as well as advertising of such resources. March 5, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin voiced the idea of ​​prohibiting the payment of royalties for copyright and related rights to foreign agents who discredit the Russian army.
