Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin did not score a goal in the match against the New York Islanders, his anti-record streak without a goal extended to 14 games. However, he scored an assist and moved up to second place in NHL history in the number of points scored in overtime – he equaled Russian forward of the Pittsburgh Penguins Evgeni Malkin (39 points).
The match between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders ended in overtime with a score of 3:2. The goals were scored by: Hendrix Lapierre (10), Joel Edmondson (34) and Dylan Strome (62) – Hudson Fasching (22) and Anders Lee (53). New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 of 36 shots.
Ovechkin last managed to score a goal on November 19 in a home match against Columbus. The Russian ranks second on the list of snipers in the history of the NHL (827 goals). He is second only to Canadian forward Wayne Gretzky (894).
