Our photojournalist Mikhail Kovalev won the Planet Moscow contest

The capital hosted the awards ceremony and the opening of the exhibition of the finalists of the IX Planet Moscow urban photography competition. The photo contest, organized by the Moscow Department of Urban Planning Policy, is being held for the ninth time, it is organized for everyone who loves their city and who is not indifferent to the future of Moscow. The purpose of the competition is to draw attention to the city-planning activities of Moscow, to the unique city historical and cultural sites, to form a new look at the comfort of the urban environment.

This year 175 photographers took part in the competition. In addition to the Moscow participants, authors from Sochi, St. Petersburg, Murmansk, Norilsk, as well as the Novgorod, Moscow, Leningrad regions, Krasnoyarsk Territory presented their works this year.
Venerable professionals and young amateurs presented 1000 photos, and a strict jury selected 80 – they made it to the final of the competition. The exhibition of works by the finalists is held on the Moscow-City city square. Anyone can visit it.

This year there were four nominations:

— Moscow and Muscovites. Comfortable city – the life of a metropolis and a person in one picture;
– Urban landscape – renovation, views of our city from various, sometimes very unusual points;
— Architecture of Moscow. Connection of times – unique buildings, interiors, facades;
— The dynamics of the metropolis — the development of the transport system of the city, Moscow construction.

Our newspaper is a Moscow newspaper, a city newspaper, a newspaper for Muscovites. It’s nice that in the nomination “Moscow and Muscovites. Comfortable city” the first place was taken by our correspondent Mikhail Kovalev (work “Love is a flight”).

Welcoming the winners, Dmitry Stulov, First Deputy Head of the Department of Urban Planning Policy of the City of Moscow, noted that the interest of Muscovites in the processes taking place in urban planning has increased significantly – this can be seen in the photographs of the participants: “Today in Moscow, builders are implementing large-scale urban planning projects: they are actively building subways and roads, reorganizing former industrial zones. The transformations taking place in the city are noticeable to everyone who lives in Moscow and who comes to the capital. For photographers – creative people – it was certainly not easy to choose only a few pictures from the many to send them to the competition. But it has become even more difficult for the jury to determine the winners by considering the works you sent in. We received wonderful, extraordinary photographs, the best of which are presented here at the exhibition. The competition works capture unique moments of the city’s development, portraits of citizens, the beauty and harmony of architecture, reflect a special look at the familiar details of the urban landscape and record changes in the appearance of the capital, and today they have become a documentary chronicle of urban changes.”
