“OstrovskyLAB” in the Actor’s House – Moskovskaya Pravda

In the year of the 200th anniversary of Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky, the Maly Theater, the Theater. Pushkin, Taganka Theatre, Et Сetera Theatre, Satire Theatre, Moscow City Council Theatre, Theater Museum. A. A. Bakhrushin and the Moscow Art Theater Museum have teamed up in a new project of the House of Actor. A. A. Yablochkina “Ostrovsky LAB”.

This is the first theatrical collaboration in Russia of this magnitude, aimed at finding young talents who will determine the theatrical reality of the country for many years to come. The organizer of the laboratory is the Regional Public Fund for Assistance to Theatrical Figures “Central House of Actors named after. A.A. Yablochkina. The competitive selection of participants took place from November 25 to January 16, during which 20 best young professionals from 18 to 35 years old from all over Russia were selected – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Kirov, Kineshma, Kostroma.

From February 10 to April 12, a creative competition-laboratory for young theater specialists in the areas of “Scenography”, “Theatre Criticism”, “Acting Skills” will be held with the participation of directors, actors, set designers, scientists from major Moscow theaters and theater museums. They will hold a number of educational events for young people: meetings, lectures, excursions, master classes.

At the Maly Theater, OstrovskyLAB participants will see previously unknown archives and manuscripts of the playwright. Theatre. Pushkina will present the process of preparing Victoria Sevryukova’s stage costumes for the premiere performance of “Madame Rubinstein” with Vera Alentova in the title role. Et Cetera will introduce the participants to the modern vision of classical plays in the premiere performance of Marina Brusnikina “Sin and trouble …”. The program also includes master classes, lectures and meetings with director Viktor Kramer, rector of the Moscow Art Theater School Igor Zolotovitsky, as well as excursions and lectures at the two main theater museums in the country. The laboratory participants will visit more than 30 performances based on the plays by A. N. Ostrovsky in leading Moscow theaters in two months.

Within two months, the contestants must prepare “thesis” works for the jury. The chairman of the jury will be the director of the Theater named after Evg. Vakhtangov Kirill Krok, as well as an artist of the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov Igor Zolotovitsky and director, actor and producer Alexander Zhigalkin. In the final, on Ostrovsky’s birthday on April 12, the participants will present an exhibition of scenography based on the plays of the great playwright and present a unique theoretical study of their young vision of Ostrovsky in the modern Russian theater. And also on this day there will be a performance staged within the framework of the laboratory.
