Oryol residents shine at the final of the Spartakiad of Russian Pensioners

At the VIII Spartakiad of Russian Pensioners, held in St. Petersburg in honor of the International Day of Older Persons, Oryol pensioners demonstrated a worthy performance.
More than 700 pensioners from 77 regions of Russia, as well as teams from Belarus, Kazakhstan and Finland, took part in the final competitions. Eight sports, including athletics, medley relay, swimming, table tennis, shooting, chess, darts and GTO standards, were selected to determine the winners and runners-up.
Athletes from the Oryol region showed excellent results. In the overall team standings, they took 43rd place among 77 regions of the country and 9th place in the Central Federal District. They also took 19th place in meeting TRP standards.
In the individual championship, Nikolai Varnavsky became fifth in the age category of 60-64 years, and Valentina Mironova took 10th place among women aged 65 to 69 years.
Good results were also achieved in individual disciplines. Valentina Mironova took 11th place in shooting, Mikhail Chinenov – 18th in table tennis, Nikolai Varnavsky – 14th in darts, Olga Semenova – 18th also in darts.
Oryol pensioners showed an example of true endurance and skill, and also confirmed that age is not an obstacle to physical activity and achieving sports results. Their success is an inspiration to many seniors across the country.
