The situation around the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra continues to develop, as if in a bad dream. The head of the schismatic OCU, Metropolitan Epiphanius, to whom the Minister of Culture wishes to transfer the monastery, has already appointed his rector of the monastery. They became Archimandrite Avraamy, the very only monk of the Kiev-Pechersk brethren who wished to move from the UOC to the OCU.
The rector of the Kiev-Pechersk monastery, Metropolitan Pavel, said that Abraham “took the path of betrayal”, so he was banned from serving. Dismissal at the head of a schismatic monastery is just that. Meanwhile, the monks of the canonical UOC have not left the Lavra and are not going to. The believers prepared to defend the monastery, in the afternoon armed policemen were already driven to the holy place…
The morning prayer service in the Lavra began at 6.30 am and lasted for several hours. Hundreds of believers again came to it, some of whom have not dispersed since yesterday. Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov, however, tried to assure the public that “no one will pull the monks by the feet.” The functionary suggested that they themselves would “quietly leave.”
However, armed people did appear on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra: several people in police uniforms and with shortened Kalashnikov assault rifles entered the monastery after the members of the commission of the Ministry of Culture, who had come to make an “inventory of property”, left without salty slurping. Parishioners surrounded the officials, preventing them from entering any door. So they left with nothing…
The day before, Metropolitan Pavel actually cursed President Zelensky, saying that he and his family would have to answer to God for the mockery of the Orthodox. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council also got it: “Who is this Danilov anyway? Today there is this NSDC, tomorrow it is not,” Metropolitan Pavel was indignant.
Meanwhile, in addition to ordinary parishioners, detachments of Orthodox Cossacks, close to the structures of the UOC, joined the defense of the Lavra. The defenders of the Lavra even made a schedule of daily duty and do not intend to retreat anywhere. Georgian Orthodox, who oppose schismatics from the OCU, also intend to defend the monastery. They all still have the belief that the Zelensky regime will not dare to attack the monks and their defenders on the territory of the holy monastery.
But celebrities who previously supported the monks of the Lavra are in no hurry to actually fulfill their promises. Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, who appeared at the prayer service yesterday, has not appeared in the monastery since.
Both the political and creative elite of Nezalezhnaya are silent, not risking crossing the road to the Kyiv regime. However, there were nevertheless not cowardly among the judges: the claim of the monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was accepted for consideration. The court is ready to consider this issue on April 26, after Orthodox Easter.
