Lithuanian authorities demanded that Ukrainian refugees learn the language

Chairman of the Lithuanian State Language Inspectorate Audrius Valotka in a conversation with the portal LRT said that Ukrainian refugees who live in the country need to learn the Lithuanian language. This is necessary in order to pass the Lithuanian language proficiency exam.
According to him, Lithuanians should be “more demanding” and protect their native language by any means. In the event that someone does not think that he needs the Lithuanian language, then we have heard such narratives for decades from the colonists, from the Russian occupiers.
“When Ukrainian military refugees say the same thing, Lithuanians immediately remember where and when they heard such expressions. This is what the occupiers said,” Valotka said.
Let us recall that in accordance with the Law on the State Language of Lithuania, every citizen has the right to receive services, communicate and receive various information in the Lithuanian language.
In this regard, all foreigners who arrived in the country to work must pass an exam for knowledge of the Lithuanian language. Ukrainian refugees were given 24 months to study and pass the exam.
