Orsk residents received more than 500 tons of humanitarian aid – Kommersant

Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations continue to distribute humanitarian aid to residents of flood-affected Orsk in the Orenburg region. There are now seven aid distribution points operating throughout the city. In total, 1,595 tons of humanitarian aid were delivered to Orsk, more than 500 tons have already been given to city residents, she reported TASS press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

According to the latest data Ministry of Emergency Situations, about 5.5 thousand houses were flooded in Orenburg, and more than 14 thousand in the region itself. In total, more than 2 thousand people were evacuated in Orenburg. The ministry also notes the gradual withdrawal of water from the region. Over the past 24 hours, the water level in the Ural River has dropped by 26 cm.

Since the beginning of April, floods have already affected 34 Russian regions. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in total more than 15.8 thousand residential buildings and 28 thousand personal plots were flooded in Russia. Residents of Orsk were among the first to face flood problems, where on April 5 the embankment dam on the Ural River was broken. Local authorities announced the start of the evacuation only two hours before the dam broke.

In Orenburg, for the first time since the beginning of the floods, the water level in the Ural River began to decrease. However, the situation still remains dangerous; indicators still exceed critical values ​​by 2.5 m.
