Monkeys moved to fresh air a week later than usual

The most reliable sign confirming that the climatic summer has finally arrived appeared in the Moscow Zoo. Some of the most heat-loving inhabitants of the zoo, the Bornean and Sumatran orangutans, entered the summer enclosures.

As it became known to “MK”, the animals moved to fresh air a week later than usual. This is due to the delayed warming. The fact is that for these primates there is a rule of “transition to summer mode” – as soon as daytime temperatures reach 22 degrees Celsius, and nighttime temperatures do not fall below 12, and there is no precipitation and strong wind, orangutans leave their “winter apartments “.

“If one of the parameters does not match, then the orangutans are invited back or initially left in warm rooms,” the experts explained. – These are very heat-loving animals, for which it is important to carefully observe the weather parameters – which are carefully maintained in indoor enclosures.

Now babies Alice, Gelai and Matiku enjoy running on wooden structures and performing acrobatic stunts on ropes, while adults Lichana, Jentan, Chawi, Chapa and Sandokan, as a rule, watch them from a comfortable shade.

According to zoologists, monkeys have special entertainment in outdoor enclosures. They love to listen to birdsong, are interested in crawling insects, and play with leaves and twigs that sometimes drift into their territory.
