Optical fiber production needs government support

The FAS recommended that the Ministry of Digital Development analyze the possibility of creating a full cycle of optical fiber production in Russia, starting from the production of blanks for drawing to the final product. In its response to the communication industry strategy until 2035 developed by the Ministry of Digital Development, the FAS noted that the ministry did not pay due attention to this issue when preparing the document. Vedomosti got acquainted with the FAS review; its authenticity was confirmed by two sources in specialized associations.

“Since there is no Russian technology for the production of blanks, equipment for drawing optical fiber from blanks, equipment for cable braiding, it is necessary to analyze the full cable production cycle, identify problems and develop, including taking into account the position of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, measures and sources of financing aimed at solving existing problems,” says the FAS letter.
