A capsule with soil samples collected from the Bennu asteroid, dropped from the American OSIRIS-Rex spacecraft, landed in Utah. reported NASA. She landed at the Pentagon training ground at 10:55 local time (17:55 Moscow time).
The probe dropped the capsule from an altitude of approximately 102 thousand km. The capsule delivered about 250 grams of asteroid soil to Earth. It will be studied at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The OSIRIS-REx device was launched in 2016. He reached the asteroid Bennu in December 2018. During the two years the device spent in orbit of the asteroid, remote study took place. This is NASA’s first mission to return soil samples from an asteroid to Earth.
