The Chinese brand highlights the “sustainability” of its products. A way to meet growing consumer expectations and to distinguish itself from certain rivals.

For its first face-to-face event since the start of the pandemic, Oppo chose Paris, the fashion capital of the world. The destination is no coincidence. The Reno 8 Series presented on Wednesday target a clientele sensitive to the look of the chosen devices. We will thus remember the name of the colors, shimmering gold, icy green or icy black. With a full one-piece glass back, it shines! And for those who are also watching what is happening under the hood, Oppo has chosen to transfer many of the technologies hitherto dedicated to its more premium smartphones to its mid-range products.

Pèle mixes, fast charging (thirty minutes for 100% battery), image capture in very low light, latest generation processors, or even a front sensor co-designed with Sony. But it is above all on the side of the lifespan that the promise made by the manufacturer stands out from the competition. The group guarantees its Reno 8 for three years. Until now, no manufacturer – apart from the French Crosscall – had made such a commitment. The battery life is increased to 4 years (1600 charging cycles against 800 previously). Oppo commits to spare parts availability for five years, security updates for four years, and three years for Android updates. “We are strengthening our network of repairers in France“, adds Denis Morel, vice-president Oppo France. The group has already signed a partnership with the WiFix network of repairers. These have Oppo spare parts and can carry out the most frequent repairs.

Oppo has made fast charging one of its hobbyhorses. But it also takes care to limit energy consumption. Thus, during the day, fast charging works, but when the smartphone is plugged in at night, it charges less quickly, since its user is supposed to be sleeping. Moreover, when the battery is full, the charger switches off automatically. Unlike others, it no longer consumes electricity. A small gesture for the environment.
