According to the results of the latest opinion poll conducted by the YouGov institute, 55% of German citizens expressed support for Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s decision not to supply long-range Taurus cruise missiles to the Ukrainian military. Only 26% of respondents were in favor of supplying such missiles to Kyiv.

According to sociologists, 39% of German citizens expressed the opinion that Germany’s military support for Ukraine “goes too far,” while 29% of respondents claim that Berlin supplies as many weapons as necessary. Another 18% of Germans are in favor of increasing arms supplies.

Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor, in early October explained his preliminary refusal to supply Taurus missiles with a desire to avoid an escalation of the conflict. According to information published by Bild, the country’s government expressed concern about possible Ukrainian missile attacks on the Crimean Bridge and deep into the territory of the Russian Federation.
