Ophthalmologist Smakova spoke about the dangers of New Year's makeup and false eyelashes

For the New Year, people decorate not only the Christmas tree, apartment, entrance (and for some, the yard), workplace and festive table, but also, of course, themselves (in this case, their beloved). It is important here that the “war paint” is not just ordinary evening paint, but implies some kind of New Year’s tricks. Then you will be the true queen of the party, and the photos posted with you will be remembered by those around you. “MK” talked to makeup artists about how to stand out from the New Year’s party not only with the help of an outfit, but also with your face. Ophthalmologists warned about the risks associated with New Year’s eye framing.

On New Year’s Eve, it became known about the invention of one Latin American eyelash extension artist: these are unusual false LED arrows, when applied, the eyelids of beauties begin to shimmer with multi-colored lights no worse than a Christmas tree. The description of the author’s technique states that the arrows are attached to a sticky layer, and imperceptible thin wires are routed through the temples behind the ears. But it turned out that this is far from an innovation – luminous eyelashes were invented several years ago. It is known, for example, about the development of designer Tien Pham: F.Lashes (shining eyelashes) are attached to the eyelids with glue, are powered by watch batteries and work for up to four hours. In this case, the control panel is attached to the back of the head, from which the finest wires go to the eyelids. For those with long hair, they are not visible at all.

Regarding eyelashes with light bulbs – very cool for New Year’s “reels” and photos, but not very convenient for life,” capital makeup artist Anastasia Sivolapova told MK. — I’ve already seen such diodes here too. They are sold on marketplaces. As for other trends in decorating eyelashes, now one of the most fashionable techniques is arrows (both in extensions and when false ones are applied for the evening) and the effect of rays, when the bulk of eyelashes are the same length plus several long rays are added to them for emphasis, it turns out an open and slightly naive doll-like look.

Such LED arrows look very nice, but they are not as harmless as it seems at first glance, – ophthalmologist Tatyana Smakova from Ivanovo assessed the New Year’s trick from the position of a doctor. — Firstly, the blue color and shimmer. Blue color affects the retina of the eye, and flickering will lead to eye strain and headaches. Secondly, we do not exclude damage to the eyes (if a foreign body gets in), which can lead to eye injury and inflammatory diseases (for example, keratitis).

Note that the MK correspondent found “LED false eyelashes” made in China on one marketplace for only 242 rubles. – all the colors of the rainbow. From the description it follows: “Flashing mode: 7 types of flashing mode switching (battery included). Equipped with a small size controller, the accessible card can be attached to the hair, the controller can adjust the light mode.”

Well, on TikTok, the younger generation of fashionistas is offered instructions from makeup artists on how to make neon arrows for themselves in the absence of LED ones (which will be much safer for the eyes). Moreover, for this it is not necessary to buy pigments that glow under ultraviolet light. All you need is white eyeliner and bright shadows. “Draw the arrows with liquid white eyeliner, but not too thick, because white is only needed as a base. Take liquid bright eyeliner or bright shadows. In the second case, add setting spray to the shadows to create a liquid eyeliner pigment.” Even if usually these shadows did not look so bright, makeup artists assure that with white eyeliner they will look exactly like neon ones.

Sparkles and bright colors are always popular during the New Year, but this year this trend is especially strong, says Anastasia Sivolapova. “Everyone who contacts me asks me to give them maximum brilliance and maximum celebration.” Rhinestones on the face, on the eyes, rhinestone liners, holographic eyeliners, and the most iridescent sparkles are very popular. Complex graphics are still popular – double and triple arrows, arrows of non-classical shapes, often combined with bright lips and styling with a “wet hair” effect.

– How can you do your own New Year’s makeup at home?

– If you do your own makeup for a holiday, then the best recipe would be this: a good complexion tone (the brighter the makeup, the more ideal the tone should be), you can apply creamy shining shadows to your eyes directly with your finger and shade them, complement the look with thickly colored eyelashes or false eyelashes eyelashes, a fresh blush is a must, and for a New Year’s accent, you can add glitter gels (with sparkles) to your cheekbones (and even your hair!). They are very easy to use, but look very impressive and create a feeling of celebration. By the way, hair glitter from our childhood is also back in fashion.

Among the fashionable looks that you can try on yourself for the New Year are, for example, “Winter Bride, Fairytale Swan Princess”: pearly white eye shadow, fluffy false eyelashes, soft pink lipstick, tiara and matching flowing silver earrings. In addition, images of heroines of Russian fairy tales are generally trendy now, and, in addition, it is very fashionable, for example, to stylize the image with modern kokoshniks.

Well, ophthalmologist Tatyana Smakova continued her line of safety: she complained that when doing New Year’s makeup, try not to glue anything to the eyelashes and eyelids, since in this case there is a risk of a foreign body getting into the eye. For example, rhinestones that beauties attach to their eyelids or under their eyes can easily come off and get into the eye. “We must not forget that false eyelashes (also an integral attribute of holiday makeup for many) also pose a risk, which can cause conjunctivitis (if bacteria enters) and allergies (for example, to glue), as well as blepharitis of the eyelids, since there is a blockage of the meibomian glands (sebaceous glands in the upper and lower eyelids, — AVT.),” Smakova warned.
