Opera will release a version of the browser with AI on iOS in the European Union – Kommersant

Opera going in March 2024, release a browser with artificial intelligence functions called Opera One in the European Union. The company will be able to do this thanks to Apple’s new policy, which allows the use of not only the Safari WebKit engine, but also other software solutions on iOS.

Apple has updated its App Store policies in response to the EU’s Digital Markets Act. Opera hopes that Apple will extend the new rules to the whole world in the future. The Opera One browser will run on its own engine, and AI functions will be introduced into it.

The Opera One browser has become available for download to all users in June 2023. The AI ​​in the browser is called Aria, it was developed together with OpenAI and uses Opera’s own Composer AI engine combined with GPT 3.5. You can call Aria using the key combinations CTRL+/ or CMD+/ on Windows and Mac, respectively, after which a command line appears for communicating with the AI. AI assistance can be enabled at the user’s discretion, and an Opera account will be required to access Aria.
