Onishchenko warned Russians about cholera in Turkey after earthquake

Epidemiologist, Honored Doctor of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko in the press center NSN said that the main reason for the exacerbation of infectious diseases in Turkey after a large-scale earthquake is the high workload on doctors, as well as the closure of preventive projects during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Onishchenko, there is a very high burden on healthcare throughout the world, which is primarily due to the coronavirus infection. The specialist stressed that many non-communicable health workers were diverted, and as a result of the overload on healthcare, the diversion of medical personnel, many assistance programs, including preventive ones, were curtailed.
The academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences clarified that the losses are calculated not only by the sick and the dead, but also by indirect influence, which also applies to cholera. Onishchenko added that in 2022 the number of countries where cases of cholera were reported increased dramatically, which was also due to the distraction of specialists.
