Onishchenko allowed the resumption of the mask regime in Russia

In Moscow and other large Russian cities, authorities may require teachers, salespeople and medical workers to wear masks. Epidemiologist, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko spoke about this at a press conference.
“The season of viral diseases is underway, and we will definitely introduce a mask regime in schools, hospitals, and in trade,” Onishchenko said. – Teachers are representatives of one of the most vulnerable groups; they are constantly in hotbeds of disease. In schools, the mask regime should be immediately introduced in cases where, say, five sick children are identified in at least one class.”
In medical institutions, both staff and visitors still walk around without masks, because they have not reached epidemic thresholds, the academician explains. But in general, restrictions are always introduced in hospitals first.
“It was not enough for the visitor to bring the virus with him. Moreover, it happens that he himself may not be sick, but he is a carrier of the virus. He will come to a medical institution and infect his relative, people around him, and add problems to the departments of therapy, cardiology or, God forbid, surgery,” Onishchenko said. – Even if all the staff are vaccinated, no, no one can go without a mask. Take care of other people. The fact that you convince yourself that you are so caring and came to visit a sick relative is even worse. You will turn out to be his main enemy: you will infect him and worsen his condition.”
In some regions and cities of Russia, authorities are reintroducing mass wearing of masks – for example, in Yakutsk. There are no plans yet to introduce a mask regime for all Russians, including Muscovites. “But where there are local diseases, this is definitely required. Even in an apartment there are no restrictions. If mom is sick, let her wear a mask in the apartment. If she infects the child, that’s okay – he will pull through. But grandparents will leave us,” Onishchenko concluded.
