Schoolchildren who will take the Unified State Exam in Russian in 2024 will be able to use stories from computer games, anime, manga, comics and graphic novels as an example and argument when completing one of the tasks. This follows from the methodological recommendations for checking works for chairmen and members of subject commissions, issued by FIPI (.pdf).
The changes affected task No. 27 in the Unified State Exam in the Russian language, where the student is required to write an essay based on a given text, and also support his opinion with arguments from life, reading or historical and cultural experience. Now the list of acceptable arguments includes various documentary and animated films, anime, manga, comics, graphic novels, the plot of a computer game and its interpretation.
Main period will open exams in geography, literature and chemistry – May 23. The Unified State Examination in the Russian language is scheduled for May 28, in specialized and basic mathematics – on May 31.
From 2024, school graduates taking the Unified State Exam early will they won’t be able to retake in the same period. Vladimir Putin spoke about the possibility of retaking one exam twice in his message to the Federal Assembly. Later, the authorities announced that it would not be possible to take the exam twice and choose the best of the two results—the scores of the first exam would be cancelled.
