On the territory of the reserve in the Rostov region recorded the death of rare birds

In the protected zone of the Rostovsky Reserve in the Western Manych valley, cases of mass death of rare birds have been recorded. This was announced by the deputy director for scientific work of the Rostovsky reserve, ornithologist Alexander Lipkovich on his page on the social network “In contact with”.

According to the ornithologist, more than 500 dead gulls, 64 dead black-headed gulls (a species listed in the Red Book of Russia) were found on the island in the buffer zone of the reserve. Also, dead foxes and hares were found on the territory of the reserve. The reason for the death of birds and animals, according to the deputy director of the reserve, is the use of pesticides to protect fields from rodents.

“What is happening in the fields of southern Russia, including the Rostov region, can be called an environmental disaster. Thousands and thousands of birds and animals have already died and will continue to die from the use of rodenticides (chemical pesticides) in the fields,” Alexander Lipkovich wrote.

Previously “b” wrote about the death of Red Book cranes in the Stavropol Territory, as well as about poisoning hares and birds with pesticides in the Rostov region.

“Each owner of the fields independently acquires and uses them almost uncontrollably. And, as can be seen from the current situation, does not bear any responsibility for the consequences. The preservation of this situation will inevitably lead to further mass death of objects of wild fauna, and possibly mass poisoning of people,” wrote the deputy head of the Rostovsky reserve.
