Social Fund listed 56 thousand veterans of the Great Patriotic War received a payment in the amount of 50 thousand rubles. It is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade.

The payment was received by veterans living in Russia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Transnistria and the Baltic states. According to the law, such a payment is provided to those awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” or the badge “Resident of besieged Leningrad.”

Today, January 27, Russia celebrates the Day of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the fascist blockade. The siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days – from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944. The medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” (established in 1942) was awarded to all participants in the defense of the city. The “Resident of Besieged Leningrad” badge (established in 1989) was awarded to those who lived in besieged Leningrad for at least four months and were not awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad.”
